Biography: John Smith-Hill joined Chernoff, Vilhauer, McClung & Stenzel, LLP in October 2009 as of counsel. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.Before joining Chernoff, Vilhauer, John worked for seven years with a leading firm of patent attorneys in London and for eight years with a law firm in New York. Since moving to Oregon in 1982, John has worked for a manufacturer of electronic test and measurement instruments and in private practice.He advises his clients regarding patent and trademark protection issues arising in the context of new product introductions and mergers and acquisitions.He provides his clients with patent prosecution services in the United States and foreign countries in a wide range of technologies; he supports his clients' trademark registration programs in the United States and foreign countries.John has specific experience in electrical and electronic technologies, fiber optic test and measurement, video technology, metals extraction and processing, alloy compositions, marine structures, and general mechanical technologies.
