Biography: Tom chairs the firm's Business and Commercial Litigation practice group. An accomplished trial lawyer and appellate advocate, he has come to appreciate the value of critical thinking, strategic planning, and diligent pursuit in complex litigation and government regulatory disputes. Tom has represented clients in federal and state courts, arbitration, and administrative tribunals across the country in a variety of matters including business fraud, civil RICO, corporate governance and fiduciary duty, consumer class action, data privacy and security breach, employment, ERISA, intellectual property, minority shareholder, merger and acquisition, securities, and unfair competition. A thorough and comprehensive early case analysis provides the best opportunity for early resolution, a goal in every disputed matter. Tom immerses in the business of his clients to deepen the analysis and speed the assessment. Successful conflict resolution in the digital age requires a mastery of litigation technology. From the early preservation and collection of evidence, to battles over e-discovery, to presentation in the courtroom or other hearing forum, Tom and his team have embraced rapidly changing technology to power creative and cost effective legal strategies. For more than twenty years, Tom has served as a visiting instructor of trial advocacy at the Harvard Law School. He commits substantial hours to pro bono legal services, most recently trying two political asylum cases to favorable verdicts in the Boston Immigration Court. He also represents victims of domestic violence seeking protection orders in the State district court through the Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project. Despite the demands of life in the law, Tom has always made time for family activities with his wife, Lori, their three daughters, and extended family that joins them every summer on the coast of Maine.
