Biography: Since 1981, Bill Shaughnessy has represented a vast array of commercial interests, from Fortune 100 companies to small and mid-sized businesses. He provides counsel to clients in a wide range of legal matters including real estate, business, commercial, telecommunications, environmental and legislative. He has represented developers and builders in the acquisition, financing and development of commercial, industrial and residential property; residential project owners and managers; condominium and homeowner associations; office building and industrial park owners and managers; landlords and tenants of commercial, industrial and retail facilities; institutional lenders and national and local companies in matters before state and local government agencies.Bill's practice has included providing counsel regarding land use and zoning matters; administrative and development plan approvals; land acquisition, development, financing, and construction; structuring and closing apartment portfolios in REIT transactions, some exceeding $200 million; leasing of office, retail and industrial space; representation of lenders in issuance of commercial loans, workouts and foreclosures; and counseling builders and contractors regarding construction disputes, lien claims and general construction matters. As part of his land use practice, Bill has provided assistance to lender and property owner clients in matters regarding agricultural preservation easements. He has appeared before various local and state agricultural boards to obtain and modify agricultural easements, and to resolve conflicts that have arisen out of the existence of these easements.Bill also has an active general business practice in which he counsels companies in areas of business structure, capitalization and finance, contracts, operations, acquisitions and dispositions of businesses and assets, and general commercial matters. He has significant experience in succession planning for small business owners who want to transition ownership to the next generation. Prior to joining Gordon Feinblatt in 2003, Bill was a partner in the Baltimore law firm of Tydings & Rosenberg, LLP, and prior thereto, he was a partner in the firm of Kaplan, Heyman, Greenberg, Engelman, Belgrad, P.A. He also worked briefly with Rite Aid Corporation as in-house counsel.
